Mairenui has been in the Sweet Family for over 100 years. There are 2 self-contained houses, the Retreat, built in the 1970s, and the Villa, built in 1895. We also offer 2 in-house en suite rooms, and meals are available at the Homestead. The Villa sleeps up to 10 (3 double, 2 twin) and features spacious grounds and views down the valley. Built in 1895, the Villa has been sympathetically restored in keeping with it's age - but with modern facilities, such as an ensuite shower/toilet in the queen bedroom, a separate shower, separate bathroom, and a separate toilet, as well as an outdoor toilet. There is also a fully equipped kitchen with a free standing woodstove, and 2 lounge rooms with open fireplaces. Verandahs on 2 sides offer relaxing places to sit while taking in the magnificent views, or watching a spirited game of croquet! The Retreat is a 3 1/2 storey architectural flight of fancy, set amongst 1000-year-old native trees & featuring a circular lounge, spiral staircase & a steep-pitched, concrete-sheathed roof. The Retreat sleeps up to 6, with two doubles & a twin - for the adventurous, the twin is located in the very top & is accessed by ladder. A two storeyed arched window gives views down the valley from the main bedroom, while smaller arched windows give views of the surrounding hills from the second bedroom. There is a fully equipped kitchen, a separate dining room & a charming conservatory - perfect for breakfasting. The lounge has a free-standing fireplace.
